As website technology progresses a great many areas of website design and function become automated and simplified. There are many “easy” and “quick” website design programs available. I just searched, on google, for “quick and easy website design tools”. There were 50,900,000 results. I added free to the beginning of the search phrase and voila! I now only have 23 million results to read through.
Making your own website can be a very rewarding experience, using one of the many “quick and easy” website creation tools available makes it possible to create your own website. Often people will use one of these programs to help them imagine and visualize their new website. Using one of these tools to get “your plan on paper” will make it lots easier to communicate your desires to a professional designer; it also helps you understand some of what the designer will tell you when he or she creates the final version of your website.
If you plan an extensive website or think you may want to make a few websites then it may be appropriate to take the time, lots and lots of it as you will find out, to learn a “real” website program like DreamWeaver or Expression Web.
The brutal truth on this subject is that it takes years of use to become fluent in any of these “real” website creation programs. Using the “quick and easy”, especially the “free and quick and easy” tools can only be realistically used to create a “starter” or demonstration website. Website Design and Creation
Having a website that represents you and communicates what you want to say is the over all goal of all website work. As such there is no way that you, the dreamer, can get to your goal without considerable involvement in the whole process. You will need to communicate well with your designer and do more then a little planning on your own.
Browse around the internet and write down the web address of those sites that appeal to you. Make notes about what you like and what you don’t about them. When you talk with your designer you can look over these sites together even if the interview is only on the phone.
You are probably going to want your own choice of pictures on your website. If you have digital pictures then you probably have hundreds to sort through. Put the ones you like in a single folder; if you can manipulate your pictures a little and re size them so they are under 200k then they will be easier to e-mail to your website designer.
Get some paper and, using a separate piece for each page, design your site and type out the words you want on each page, so you can e-mail it to your designer.
The largest part of getting your website online can only be done by you. If you use a “quick and easy” site creator or hire the best professional you can find, you are still going to have to do your homework:

- Collect, sort and modify your pictures
- Type out your message for each webpage
Standard, static HTML V/S Dynamic Websites!
Over the past couple of years Google has made some significant changes in its ability to properly read, understand and index dynamic pages in a website. If you have, or plan to have, a large and frequently changing website, especially one with lots of reader interaction like forms, blogs and purchases a dynamic website may actually be appropriate and wise. I came across this article that you can access here at google! This gives a very clear and reliable understanding of the problems and advantages of the two types of webpages: Dynamic and Static!
The next two paragraphs are from that article, written by Juliane Stiller and Kaspar Szymanski.
“What is a static URL?
A static URL is one that does not change, so it typically does not contain any url parameters. You can search for static URLs on Google by typing filetype:html in the search field. Updating these kinds of pages can be time consuming, especially if the amount of information grows quickly, since every single page has to be hard-coded. This is why webmasters who deal with large, frequently updated sites like online shops, forum communities, blogs or content management systems may use dynamic URLs.
“What is a dynamic URL?
If the content of a site is stored in a database and pulled for display on pages on demand, dynamic URLs maybe used. In that case the site serves basically as a template for the content. Usually, a dynamic URL would look something like this: https://code.google.com/archive/p/google-checkout-php-sample-code/issues/31. You can spot dynamic URLs by looking for characters like: ? = &. Dynamic URLs have the disadvantage that different URLs can have the same content. So different users might link to URLs with different parameters which have the same content. That’s one reason why webmasters sometimes want to rewrite their URLs to static ones.”
In my experience it is very clear that a dynamic webpage will not rank well in google’s search engine results. I have proven this to myself over and over while working on www.medical-library.net. This was originally a fully dynamic website. As there are over 5000 pages within the site this is not a totally unwise move. In order to achieve higher S.E. ranking I started making static versions of the more important pages and I have seen with every one of these that the page will rank well down the list (like 80 or 120 if it shows at all) for the terms that describe the page. However when the page is republished as a static page it jumps to the first page for the same search terms.
If the website is no more than a few dozen pages do not even consider making it a dynamic website unless you have complicated databases that you need to utilize. The losses in S.E. results are just too staggering. However if the website is extensive with rapidly changing content you will save lots of time going with dynamic.

For many years I was webmaster for “medical Library net” which is an older dynamic website. I inherited this website already made and had been promoting it since April of 2008. Even though the website had been online with thousands of pages for over 8 years it still ranked at 670 for the term “medical library” its own domain name! By June it had dropped to 20th place for the same terms. Currently (Nov.26, 2011) the site was finally number 1 for not just “Medical Library” but a great many other keyword phrases.
Another rewarding project has been Bed-Breakfast-Maui.com. I developed this website for the Banyan Bed and Breakfast here on Maui. I had my first taste of seo success on this website a few months after completion Sept. 2007 when it starting jumping up against stalwart competition of 206,000 (total search term results) to become number 1 for the terms “Maui Bed and Breakfast”. As of June 2011 it shows on the first page for 7 of the 8 most popular search terms for its category including “maui hotels”.

It is still up and running, I just haven’t done much to it since.
For the next few years I made a number of websites that are no longer up and running.
I then took on a contract in 2004 and developed www.hawaii-mauirentals.com. We have changed the focus on this website from “vacation rentals” to “bed and breakfast” and then again changed the focus to being a “retreat center”. It really can wreck havoc on your search engine results changing the focus around like this for a number of reasons. As of September 2009 this site is no longer active though it had succeeded well finally for the search terms “maui retreats” and “maui retreat”. The site now forwards over to www.bed-breakfast-maui.com, this has helped the search result ranking considerably
It is actually very difficult to successfully change keywords and do well in the search engine results. When directories and other websites link to your site they include words in the link text. If all the links say “maui vacation rental” this will actually drag the site back from doing well as “maui retreat center”. Search engine robots are just that: “robots”. A nice clear message of no more than 5 keywords is just what the robots want to hear. Striving for more will just muddy the water and confuse those poor ‘bots.
